‘Archive: RUMBLER – The Coal Room’. Illustration by: RUMBLER.
The following was originally written when this picture was uploaded onto my DA Group Site: ‘CombativeWomen’. It is still apropos now:
‘RUMBLER: The Coal Room Catfight’. Rendering by: Rumbler. This is obviously the beginning of a hard fought catfight. This catfight illustration was done by Robert A. Moody. When he started doing illustrations he combined his initials into 'RAM', and RAM was the name of the artist who did the artwork for a number of my illustrated novels. Years later he changed his style, and in the doing changed his name to: ‘RUMBLER’ (in caps). And this is a RUMBLER work. When I saw a picture similar to this rendering I contacted my good friend, after all these years, and said that he had created yet another magnificently powerful work. To which he replied that was his intent. I told him that the previous work of art was of such quality and power it would stand on its own as a masterwork. I also mentioned to him that a lot of viewers to my site want to get in touch with him and hire him to do commissions for them. Currently he’s rather busy, but Bob did a few original illustrations for me in his Rumbler style; and said put them up on my site, and let’s see what happens. So, here they are. One at a time. Then he’ll review the feedback and proceed from there. Consequently, to protect his privacy, I’m going to keep mum for the time being.
In his early years Robert went by the name of: RAM. Later, when he changed his illustrative style he went by: RUMBLER. And that is the name he used when he did this illustration. I’ll upload the rest of the Rumbler works during the next few weeks.
Well, ‘Nuff said. So I hope that you will enjoy this remarkable work. I have. And do.
Update: As I well know, both Robert and I are getting along in years. And age does take its toll, and with my good friend RAM, it is his eyes. They are bothering him a lot, so to preserve his vision he is not doing any more illustrations. Inked work is very eye intensive, and as such a great strain on the ‘Old Eyeballs’. As a result, these are the last of the illustrations by a master of that genre – R.A. Moody. As with my original Eric Stantons, my RAMs and RUMBLERs now belong to the ‘Archives’.
No problem, just nice to say thanks. The only one I'm missing from the "Amazon Death Struggle" series was the "KO" & as it's probably a few years to late to acquire a copy any chance of some of the artwork as samples on the site just to see what I missed ?? Many thanks
That is indeed a great shame, but he does leave a great legacy & unfortunately it's not a skill thats easy to pass on especially with regards to the subject matter. I would loved to have seen his visual interpretation of some of Cage's stories, the Ms Jacobs barn series comes to mind as a starting point. Thanks for some great drawings over the years.
