‘Roxie Rocket - Now Fight’. I consider the cartoon series ‘Roxie Rocket’ as one of the greatest works of cartoon artistry ever created in the combative women genre. It was collaboration with Danny Ryan doing the illustrations and Lobrow doing the coloration. I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves. I’ll add only this: Here is the third of the panels. Then, as the battle continues, I will upload the follow-on panel each week and continue to do so until we reach the conclusion. Sorta like I’m doing with the ‘Elmtown’ series of illustrations. Finally, to address the Deviant Art censors on this series. ‘STJ Productions’ has acquired the rights to display these Danny Ryan pictures and has given me written permission to upload them on my site. The owner is a good friend of mine here in L.A. As an aside, it is in his boxing ring that the various ‘Big Bucks’ underground fights were conducted - The pictures of some of these fights previously uploaded on my site.

This, for me at any rate, is probably the most iconic (for lack of a better word) part of the sequence. It's certainly one heck of a way for the battle to start.

Well, I thought that was going to be a mail reply, not a public "comment". Oh well.

As you know, in the DA ‘comments’ section there is a ‘hide comment’ button. When you sent your first comment I didn’t hide it. If I make a mistake or do something in error, I admit it – Publically. And that is what I am doing here. I now believe you are ‘in deed’ the owner and as such grateful that you have allowed me to keep the ‘Roxie’ series on this site. I see you did the coloring and I have to stand in line that has formed over the years in praise of this classic work of art. There are as many who are enamored with the inking as there are with the coloring. What you two have done in combining your two great talents in this series of masterpieces is give visual proof to the cliché: ‘The sum is greater than the parts’. I have spent a lot of time and money in trying to make this a prestige DA site, and of all the renderings that have been featured here I am especially proud of the ‘Roxie Rocket’ panels. So here is what I propose. I would be honored if you would send me via e-mail attachments all of the panels. And add your personal comments on any or all. I will run the full series in all their pristine full size beauty immediately – Straight through. I see you have a DA site and I suppose when you have the time you will start to populate it with works of art and comment. What I will do is link each panel to your site, so when you do start to build it up there will be plenty of visitors to review your considerable talent. Finally, you have been very gracious through all this and I consider you a class act. Not for a moment do I consider your nickname ‘lobrow’ as apropos. From now on I will always refer to you as ‘Highbrow’and in this I stand firm. My e-mail is: drew692@verizon.net
With all due respect. Drew.

Baloney that STJ owns the rights to these. I commissioned them from DR for the Arena. I still have the original artwork. In fact, I have it right here. In fact, I had a bunch of uncolored pencils all the way through the fight until Roxie and her mistress are banished to earth and fall in with a bunch of costumed female crime fighters battling an evil babe group.

Well, I don't care at all that you're hosting the images... they've been out there for what, 12 - 13 years now? I was just responding to the statement that STJ bought the rights, which I'm not sure how that could be since I purchased the originals from DR those many years ago and even colored them! So, essentially, it's a statement that he has the rights to my work as well as Danny Ryan's. So, while I can't say that I care for STJ plastering his silly logo all over them and claiming some sort of ownership of them, I have absolutely no issues at all with you or anyone else hosting them and giving them away for free.

As for STJ, well I'm basically very lazy and certainly I'm not going to make a mountain out of a molehill. He just doesn't "own" them and you can pass that on to him, or not, as the case may be.

Maybe one of these days I'll get around to scanning in the rest of the series and put it online up here on DA.

Regards,

Lovely colors! I love how clear it is that the brunette's boot is landing right in the worst place.
