‘The Most Unkindest Cut Of All - By Merlin’. There are some works by the artist Merlin that are perfect in my eyes, and I have no suggestions to make to improve them. This is one of those great works of art. The only thing I changed was the title. The title comes from the Mark Antony speech in Shakespeare’s play: ‘Julius Caesar’.

“For Brutus, as you know, was Caesar's angel.
Judge, O you gods, how dearly Caesar loved him!
This was the most unkindest cut of all.
For when the noble Caesar saw him stab,
Ingratitude, more strong than traitors' arms,
Quite vanquish'd him: then burst his mighty heart.”

And this sword slice by a Nubian Gladiatrix into the inner thigh of this Roman Gladiatrix is a most unkind cut, and as such can be the beginning of the end of this contest.
The POV (Point Of View) of this from the sandy arena floor upward angle of view is astonishing. A new view of two Gladiatrix fighters, 2,000 years ago in a Roman arena in a literal fight to the finish is a flat out classic.
First the background. Merlin has done a number of superb ‘hard hitting’ (pun intended) works for me, but this is not one of them. This image is from a site called ‘Merlin’s Kingdom’, and it is devoted to combative women, and some men; and features renderings in the 3D format by Merlin, the site owner. On his site there is plenty to read too, as there are a number of stories, accompanied by pictures, throughout that site. Merlin, who runs the place, is English, and as such everything is first class. Consequently, I suggest my viewers give his site a gander.
Some time ago I blundered into Merlin’s site and saw a remarkable rendering by him, and sent him an e-mail telling him how much I admired that particular ‘Work Of Art’. And left it at that. However, he e-mailed me back and said how much he liked my site. We became a sort of mutual admiration society of two. So we started talking and eventually I suggested we take a number of his works and update them. Which meant that we would leave the originals alone in his site, then modify them for my ‘MasterPieces By Others’ series. Which were featured on my site earlier in the year. So if you want see the original setting and story relating to this rendering, you’ll have to travel to his site.
His site can be found at his link: merlin-kingdom.com
See you there. ‘Nuff said. Drew.
